Scholarship Information and Guidelines
Chelsea Education Foundation was founded in 1990 and was registered as a non-profit corporation in 1999. Since its beginning over eighty volunteers from the Chelsea community have served a three year term on the 15 member CEF Board. One of the purposes of the Foundation is to provide scholarships to worthy applicants who are graduating seniors or are continuing their education at a college or university.
Each applicant to our scholarship program must complete an essay, obtain a letter of recommendation, and provide a current transcript to the committee. These requirements are applicable to every scholarship that is applied for. This paperwork is turned in to the Chelsea High School counseling office. After the scholarship deadline the CEF Scholarship committee’s work begins! The processes in which the applicants are chosen are as follows:
Each committee member is given a copy of every application. They read each essay, letter of recommendation and transcript. This process is done individually.
After reading all the applications for each scholarship the committee member ranks each student according to their merit, GPA, or other specific requirements for each scholarship. This process is also done individually.
After ranking all applicants according to their scholarship needs, the committee then meets collectively to decide who will receive each scholarship.
During the committee meeting each scholarship is awarded to an individual or individuals.
Each scholarship recipient is notified. If the recipient is a graduating senior they will be awarded the scholarship at Class Night. They will receive a certificate at that ceremony. Later, a check for the scholarship monies will be sent to the recipient’s college of choice. If the recipient is a returning college student they will be notified by mail and a check for the scholarship monies will be sent to their college or university. They also will receive a certificate.
The Scholarship committee consists of between nine to fifteen CEF Board members.
Current Board members children may not apply or receive CEF scholarship dollars. However, past Board members children are welcome to apply.
Chelsea Education Foundation also facilitates the awarding of the Chelsea Rod and Gun Scholarships.
