The Chelsea Education Foundation (CEF) and the Educational Foundation of Dexter (EFD) are gearing up once again to raise crucial funds for educational grants in their respective communities. This fundraising initiative commences on October 1, 2023, and culminates during halftime at the Chelsea vs. Dexter football game on October 20. The game will take place at Al Ritt Stadium in Dexter.
The "Rivalry Match" tradition has become a beloved community event. In 2019, the inaugural match raised over $10,000 for both 501(c)3 non-profit organizations. After a brief hiatus in 2020, the tradition made a triumphant return in 2021. That year, the match yielded a combined total of $45,662, with CEF securing the title by raising $24,099 compared to EFD's $21,563.
However, it was in 2022 that community support truly soared, resulting in a remarkable combined total of $97,751. CEF emerged victorious once again, raising $50,072, while EFD garnered $47,679.
The "Rivalry Match" exemplifies the commitment of both foundations to enhance educational experiences for students in their respective districts. The $154k funds they have raised support teacher-authored grants, building-level grants, district-wide initiatives, and scholarships for district graduates.
Mike Cipolla, President of the Educational Foundation of Dexter, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming match. "We look forward to our fourth annual Rivalry Match with CEF. This unique fundraiser plays a crucial role in funding educational programs in both districts. Last year we were so close to bringing the title back to Dexter. We believe that 2023 can be our year, but in the end, the schools are the true victors in the Rivalry Match.
Amy Forehand, President of Chelsea Education Foundation, emphasized the foundation's role in supporting schools and educators. "Our educational foundations provide essential resources and financial support to help students reach their fullest potential."
The partnership between CEF and EFD continues to be a valuable collaboration, benefiting students, schools, and communities alike.
