Chelsea Education Foundation Celebrates 35 Years of Impact, Launches $1 Million Endowment Campaign

Chelsea, MI — On May 18, 2025, the Chelsea Education Foundation (CEF) proudly celebrated 35 years of unwavering support for students and educators in the Chelsea School District. Since its founding, CEF has become a cornerstone of educational enrichment, awarding over 1,130 scholarships to Chelsea School District graduating seniors and funding over 815 grants for teachers and community programs that benefit students from preschool through high school graduation and after.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors and the dedication of educators, CEF has positively impacted the educational journey of more than 59,000 students since its inception. By supporting CEF, donors are not only empowering individual students and teachers but also strengthening the broader Chelsea community, creating a ripple effect of opportunity, growth, and shared success.

"As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we reflect with deep gratitude on the vision of our founding board and the continued support of our community," said Amy Forehand, President of the Chelsea Education Foundation. "Their legacy continues to inspire us as we look toward an even brighter future for Chelsea students and teachers."

To honor its 35th anniversary, CEF is proud to announce the launch of a $1 million fundraising campaign to establish and grow the Chelsea Education Foundation Endowment Fund. This initiative will ensure sustainable, long-term support for scholarships and grants that enrich educational experiences for generations to come.

The original founding board members Amy Heydlauff, Treva Winans, Barbara Rose, Anne Comeau, Helen Lancaster, Dr. Richard Ernest, Joe Piasecki, Patrice Fahrner, Kenneth Gietzen, Janet Roberts, Tom Huetteman, Peter Flintoff, Dave McLaughlin, Tim Merkel, Charles Skelton, Mary Beth Rosenberg—laid the foundation for a legacy of excellence. Today, CEF remains committed to its mission: enhancing the Chelsea School District’s educational experiences by financing projects beyond the resources of the district and by providing scholarships to district graduates.

Throughout the year, CEF will host events and campaigns under the theme "Honoring Our Legacy. Funding Their Future." Community members, alumni, and supporters are invited to join in the celebration and be a part of this transformative effort.
